A tragic incident unfolded in downtown Houston as a female pedestrian, identified as Damilola Matuluko, a city employee, was struck and killed by a metro bus.
According to ABC 13 Houston, the accident occurred near Rusk and Smith around 7:40 a.m. According to Lt. Tim McClelland of the METRO Police Department, the pedestrian was in the crosswalk with the right of way when the bus, operated by First Transit, turned onto Rusk, resulting in the fatal collision.
Allnaijadiaspora.com learnt that driver of the bus, a contract employee, is said to be cooperating with authorities. While there were two passengers on the bus, no other injuries were reported.
Matuluko, who had been part of the city’s HR Operations Employee Relations team since 2023, was described by officials as a beloved and impactful team member despite her relatively short tenure with the department.
