History made as first Nigerian female officer cadet graduates from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst

Senior Nigerian military dignitaries attended the Sovereign’s Parade at the Sandhurst Academy to witness the first Nigerian female officer cadet graduate on April 12.

Officer Cadet Owowoh Princess Oluchukwu, 24, became the first-ever Nigerian female officer to graduate from the UK’s Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS).

She was the first ever woman from Nigeria to attempt this gruelling training course.

The parade marked the completion of 44 weeks of intensive training for the Officer Cadets of Commissioning Course 232.

The Sovereign’s Parade took place just four days after the history-making events in London and Paris that celebrated the 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale.

Now she is one of over 135 other young officers who successfully completed the training course and who will take up their command duties in the UK and across the world.

But in time-honoured tradition they will have to wait a few more hours until the stroke of midnight when they can truly call themselves commissioned Army officers and celebrate with friends and family at the Commissioning Ball.
