Nigerian-born, Irish-raised producer and songwriter Plantain Papi is celebrating the success of his debut album “Still Healing,” released in late February. Plantain Papi is a pioneer of the Afroswing genre in Ireland, blending elements of hip-hop, grime, and R&B to create a unique sound.
In an interview with Extra.ie, Plantain Papi discussed the album’s origins. “Some of the tracks started way back in 2020,” he said. “It was about finding the right balance for everything.”
“The album really came together in July,” Plantain Papi continued. “I just got tired of putting out singles. I wanted to give my fans a full project to explore.”
“Still Healing” is a deeply personal album that explores themes of healing and growth. “It’s really vulnerable,” Plantain Papi admitted. “I had to decide if putting this out there would make sense.”
Plantain Papi hopes listeners will find their own meaning in the music. “Whatever they take away from it is perfect,” he said. “Sometimes you listen to a song and it means something completely different to you than what the artist intended.”
