A 51-year-old America returnee, Sunday Abioye, was found dead in a hotel room in Sagamu, Ogun State, on Wednesday. His lifeless body was discovered in his room at a hotel located in the GRA area of Sagamu.
Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement issued from the state capital, Abeokuta. According to Odutola, the Chief Security Officer of the hotel, Mr. Oluwole, reported the discovery of the deceased to the police.
Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives arrived at the scene and found the body outside the hotel, already placed in a car and being prepared for transportation to the morgue by the deceased’s family.
The deceased’s brother, Jimoh Godday, who lives in Imota, Lagos State, told the police that Sunday had returned to Nigeria from the USA on November 16. On Monday, Godday visited the hotel and knocked on his brother’s door, but when there was no response, he requested a spare key from the manager to access the room, where he found his brother’s lifeless body.
The police spokesperson stated that photos were taken at the scene, and several medications, including traditional medicines, were recovered from the room. She also mentioned that the center of the bed was soaked with a liquid-like substance. The deceased’s friend, Ogunmonti Ogunwole, confirmed that he had accompanied Sunday the previous day to purchase various medications due to his complaints of illness.
The body has been taken to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital Morgue in Sagamu for an autopsy. The cause of death is still unknown, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
